Measuring the cartridge length at the bullet tip is not a reliable or repeatable system for measuring loaded cartridges. It is, in fact, easy to find variations of up to 0.025 inches between cartridges. This comparator measures cartridges from the base of the ogive to provide consistent and precise measurements.

It can also be used to check the uniformity of the bullet from base to ogive. In combination with the length gauge, the comparator allows for maximum measurement precision. The comparator, in fact, aligns the length verifier for maximum measurement accuracy with the caliper. This method allows direct comparison of your reloads, depending on the setting on the bullet seating die.
