The ELD-X (Extremely low drag – eXpanding) bullet is technologically advanced, match-precision, all-round hunting, equipped with the highest ballistic coefficient of its class
and capable of controlled expansion at ALL practical hunting distances.

All conventional polymer tips from manufacturers melt during flight. Hornady engineers discovered that all materials used in the tips of tapered bullets with a high ballistic coefficient melt during flight and deform. Although this is not a major issue in medium ballistic coefficient bullets with traditional hunting tips, aerodynamic heat reduces the ballistic coefficient and decreases accuracy, especially at long ranges (beyond 365 meters). To mitigate this effect, Hornady identified a heat-resistant polymer and developedthe patented Heat Shield tip.This revolutionary tip creates the perfect apex for the bullet, with exceptionally consistent results from bullet to bullet and batch to batch.

At conventional distances (0-365 m), the ELD-X tip is designed for continuous expansion along the entire path. Upon impact, the thin apical section of the bullet
collapses until reaching the thickest part of the jacket, where the Interlock ring functions to hold core and jacket together. The more massive part of the bullet,
then continues its course further aiding expansion, with results of very high lethality.
