The Discovery Micro is a basic-level biological microscope that allows the observation of transparent samples. These may be slides with pre-prepared samples, the microcosm living in a drop of water, or freshly prepared slides. The microscope is small and lightweight, making it portable. Consequently, it can be used not only at home but also taken on trips or to the countryside.
Optical system
The magnification range varies from 40x to 640x, so it is not possible to observe bacteria or blood cells. However, this microscope allows viewing parts of animal and plant tissues, observing some types of cells, as well as examining parts of insects and tiny organisms living in water. The microscope is equipped with three objective lenses (4x, 10x, and 40x) and a sliding two-position 10x—16x eyepiece. The head tilted at 45° makes prolonged observations more comfortable, and sharpness is manually adjustable using the coarse focus knobs. The microscope is easy to use, even for inexperienced users.
Adjustable LED illumination system
Samples are placed on the stage, where they can be secured with two clips. Below the stage is an LED light. It is recommended to use it in case of insufficient natural light. Thanks to battery power (not included), the illumination system can also be used away from a power outlet. The brightness of the illumination is adjustable. Additionally, the size of the light beam can be adjusted using the disc diaphragm.
An educational book about the microcosm
The microscope is sold with the educational book “Invisible World.” This colorful book will illustrate the microcosm to young scientists. They can read chapters about the history of microscopy, microorganisms, and a variety of structures that can be seen under the microscope. The book presents not only interesting knowledge but also experiments that can be performed at home.
